About BCMSF

Founded by Riders. Committed to Every Rider's Return.

The BC Motorcycle Safety Foundation is a province-wide non-profit dedicated to reducing preventable motorcycle fatalities through education, advocacy, and community.

Our Story

Why BCMSF Exists

In 2021, following one of the most heartbreaking years for BC motorcyclists on record, a group of experienced riders, safety instructors, and road safety advocates came together with a shared conviction: too many riders were dying in crashes that could have been prevented.

We believed — and still believe — that riding a motorcycle can be a safe, joyful, and lifelong pursuit. The problem isn't motorcycles. The problem is the gap between how riders are trained, how roads are designed, and how riders are treated when something goes wrong.

BCMSF was founded to close that gap. We work with certified training schools, government partners, and the broader riding community to make world-class safety education accessible to every rider in BC — regardless of where they live or what they can afford.

"We started this because we'd lost too many friends. We knew the crashes weren't inevitable — they were preventable. That's the entire point of BCMSF."

Programs & Services

Four Ways We Support BC Riders

Safety Education

Free workshops, online modules, and community events that teach defensive riding technique, hazard recognition, SIPDE methodology, and emergency braking. Available province-wide.

Rider Advocacy

We work with municipal and provincial governments to improve road design, upgrade warning signage on high-risk curves, and ensure BC's insurance and legal systems treat motorcyclists fairly.

First Gear Program (Launching Soon)

Not every new rider can absorb the full cost of protective gear. The First Gear subsidy program provides eligible new riders with discounted helmets and jackets so PPE is never the barrier to riding safely.

Family & Survivor Support

When a crash occurs, the impact extends far beyond the rider. BCMSF connects affected families and survivors with counselling referrals, legal resource guides, and peer support networks across BC.
